About me:
Although few in number, the Rakshasa are members of a Nosferatu bloodline so old and pervasive that Indian kindred treat it as a clan in itself. Cities throughout Europe, the Americas and Australia have received vampire immigrants or Kshatrivas as they call themselves, who take up physical professions where they give great courage and loyalty. Others may concentrate on shipping, particularly that of the undead in and out of cities though few vampires are brave enough to accept the offer.
The Rakshasas were born of Brahma’s creation to protect the waters of the earth. They asked Viswakarman, the architect of heaven, to build them a place to live and he built Sri Lanka. The Rakshasas multiplied but eventually fell from grace and became vampires that strived to overthrow the authority of the gods in order to rule according to their lusts travelling beyond Sri Lanka where they would feed from mortals men and animals.
Hindu and mortal mythology describes them as horrific demon monsters who are deadly enemies of humanity and the gods themselves. These vampiric demons can fight as well as their mythical namesakes and proudly claim the rank of Kshatriya or warrior in the Hindu caste system but Rakshasa do not believe sanctified quasi-Christian myths about the origin and purpose of vampires but they cultivate alliances and exploit demons, like the Ordo Dracul, in hope of monopolizing services.
Few western Rakshasa show much interest in joining covens and many remain unaligned although some very strong Rakshasa clans exist. Western cities seldom see more than three or four Rakshasas at a time. As these immigrants are quick to admit they are fortune hunters or refugees. Brood members tend to have at least one servant, while some keep multiple servants as well as assorted blood bound, mortal minions; this is simply because a vampire needs such servants to travel. A city’s Rakshasas work closely with each other even if individuals join coteries of others and most Rakshasas maintain contact with sires or older family back in India who coordinate the bloodline’s fledgling transportation network.
These Nosferatu tend toward grotesquely inhuman appearance, extreme even by their parent clan’s standards and skin coloured pustulent yellow, rotten green or bruised blue. Their arms or legs may be too long or too short for their bodies, while their claws and fangs never retract. Rakshasas often carry a dagger or small swords which is a custom borrowed from mortal Sikhs as a means of demonstrating their status as warriors. They supposedly exercise their murderous malice with the help of power to assume both human and animal form. Without Obfuscate, no Rakshasa can ever pass for human and as well as taking on very beautiful human form, particularly women, they can also take on the appearance of animals particularly tigers but also dogs, vultures, and owls. Majesty is also an important discipline.
Rakshasas who have enough talent at Obfuscate to pass for human may dwell in high class hotels and handsome mansions. In India, their elders and leaders dwell in ancient palaces, fortresses, temples and royal tombs. Demons with sufficient skill at Protean often sleep while welded into earth or stone, but prefer to rest in the wall or floor of a pleasant, well appointed haven; they refuse to dwell in filth and crypts and abandoned cellars are the humblest havens that are accepted.
